Boulder Ridge Day
Camp is owned and operated by The Ebner Family. With over 200 years
of combined camping experience, three generations of Ebners have been
operating residential summer camps, Camp
Awosting for Boys since 1948 and Camp
Chinqueka for Girls since 1955. The Ebners bought the facility
formerly known as "The Village" in 2003 to start Boulder Ridge Day
Camp, hoping to offer a day camping experience similar to their 2
residential camps that have been so successful for the past 60 years.
Kevin Ebner,
Co-Director,
is one of 7 grandchildren of the late Oscar Ebner Sr. and
Virginia Ebner, who bought Camp Awosting in 1948 and founded Camp
Chinqueka in 1955. He became the Director and Facility Manager of Boulder
Ridge when his family purchased the facility in 2003. Having grown up at
Camp Awosting, Kevin brings over 35 years of camping experience to Boulder
Ridge Day Camp. Despite his many years of experience Kevin attends camp
conferences and workshops throughout the off season and is a member of the
Connecticut and American Camp Associations. In addition to his
responsibilities at camp he and his wife Liz run weddings, banquets, company outings
and other special events on the weekends from April to October.
Samantha
Endersby-Smith, Co-Director
Samantha Endersby-Smith has camp in her blood. After being
a camp-toddler for several years, Sam was a camper at Camp Chinqueka in
Bantam for 11 years, completed the CIT program there, and went on to be a
Low Ropes and Climbing Tower Counselor. Sam spent a summer at Star Ranch
in Texas, a camp for children with learning difficulties and behavioral
problems, teaching activities like swimming, boating, team building, and
various sports. Sam has also utilized her Bachelor's Degree in
Therapeutic Recreation at the Farmington Valley YMCA where she was the Site
Director for their after-school program. Sam has worn many hats at
BRDC in the past, including Senior Counselor, Lifeguard/Swim Instructor,
Climbing PAC and Head Counselor. This is Sam's 4th year at Boulder Ridge
Day Camp and she also works full-time in the winter camp office.
Nicole Kelley,
Camp Coordinator,
has been working
for the Ebner family full time since 2003. As a child & teen, Nicole
attended camps run by Harwinton, Torrington and the Girl Scouts, and was
also a counselor for Harwinton’s Summer Program. During her college
years she spent several summers working with the Torrington YMCA in
their summer programs for disadvantaged teens and with the Literacy
Volunteers. In addition to being the Camp Coordinator for Boulder Ridge
Nicole utilizes her Degrees in Accounting and Computer Science as the
year round office manager and bookkeeper for all three Ebner Camps.
Ebner Camps, Inc was
recently honored by the UCONN
