Our
camp is divided into three separate programs, although within each
program, campers are kept in groups with children that are from the same age
and/or grade:
-
Juniors
- For 4 year olds through completing 1st grade
-
Intermediates
- For completing 2nd Grade through 4th Grade
-
Seniors - For
completing 5th Grade through 8th Grade
The Juniors
program is specifically designed for children in preschool and completing 1st
grade. The focus is on early childhood development, group
games, play time and learning the fundamental skills at the activity areas.
The Intermediates
program is suited for campers who have some of the basic activity skills but may
need some additional instruction. Campers may also participate in special
activities throughout the session.
The Seniors
program is for our oldest campers. Seniors may be able to take at least one
off-camp trip to do go-karts or watersports on Bantam Lake.
In addition, below is a
description of the activity areas and what campers will experience in our camp
program:
Swimming: Campers will swim instruction each day and have the option to
choose an additional free swim period as an elective.
Boating: Canoe and kayak on our Boulder Ridge pond.
Sports: Both team (Softball, Volleyball, Soccer, Basketball,
Floor Hockey) and
individual sports (Tennis, Archery) will be taught and
played by campers at Boulder Ridge - with a special emphasis on sportsmanship
and fun!
Photography/Newspaper: Campers will be able to become star reporters and
photographers as they work on the Boulder Ridge Beacon - the camp newspaper.
Arts & Crafts: Be sure to be on the lookout for a beautiful project
created in our Arts & Crafts studio. Campers create projects that will be more
than just "Refrigerator material."
Ceramics: Campers are able to make ceramic projects to take home and make
any parent proud.
Climbing Tower/Zip Line: Let your kids climb to new heights this summer.
After climbing our 30 foot tower, campers (in a safety harness, of course) can
cruise down our zip line to another part of camp.
Cooking: We're not talking PB&J! Campers will create such things as
monkeybread and camp s'mores, along with an assortment of other fun foods and be
able to eat them right away!
Hiking/Nature: Surrounded by over 68 acres of some of the best things to
be found in nature, campers will be blazing new trails as they discover and
learn to appreciate the great outdoors.
Performing Arts: Combining music, dance and drama - maybe the next
American Idol will get their start at Boulder Ridge Day Camp.
Camp Games: Campers will learn many new games at camp - all meant to
challenge them physically and/or mentally.
Boulder Ridge Parents Night: Keep watching our calendar for the dates of our
evening extravaganzas, to be shared with the parents and family of Boulder Ridge
Day Campers.
Clubs: Campers will be able to sign up for a club which will give them a
little extra time in the activity area they like best.
Special Events: We feature some spectacular special events found only
at Boulder Ridge Day Camp. These include:
All off site trips
are optional and require permission slips. Campers who choose not to attend
these trips will follow the normal daily schedule at camp. Although we have not
done so in the past, Boulder Ridge Day Camp reserves the right to charge an
additional fee for off-camp trips. Parents will be notified in advance should
that be the case.
Children should wear play
clothes and sneakers, and bring 2 bathing suits and a towel.
All clothes must be labeled with your child’s name. Camp will be held rain or
shine. In case of rain, please send your child to camp with
appropriate rain gear, including rain coat, boots, and a sweatshirt.
Also, an additional change of clothes should be sent to camp that day.
Boulder Ridge Day Camp
strives to promote unity, cooperation, and teamwork.
In an effort to help achieve this, we ask that campers not bring video
games, Pokemon or other trading cards, personal radios/CD players, cell phones, or other
items that may detract from the scheduled activities.
If these items are brought to camp, they will be held at the camp office
for the day.
Situated on 68 acres in the
rolling hills of Barkhamsted. We
have plenty of room for kids to run, play, explore, and just have FUN!
